Demo
reviews // Face Up To It! netzine (www.faceuptoit.cjb.net) by Tuomas Mäkinen
It's always nice to get demos to review. This time I got a demo from Business City, Lahti. I knew Pekka & The Other Losers from the Chambers zine (www.chambersmagazine.com). Actually some of these guys or all of them are doing that zine. I got the impression that P&TOL are some kind of having fun band (aren't all bands?) or at least it seems they're not too serious. The first song, "Johnny", is that kind of punk ROCK I would like to play. It's the stuff that always puts me in a better mood. I also like the lyrics. I'm pleased to hear some oi! oi! oi! in the backing vocals. This song is my favorite on this demo. The next two songs, "Born to Booze and "Need for Speed sound quite a bit like Blood for Blood to me. There's also a B4B kind of talking part in Born to Booze. "Thats right motherfuckers! I was born to lose...", you know B4B, but not really seriously. For Need for Speed I have to mention the piano! These songs aren't bad either. The last song is Teenage Dirtbags. And it's not a cover from that horrible Wheatus song! Musically this one is like combination of Johnny and Born to Booze. Something like Blood For Blood playing punk rock. Somehow this reminds me Finnish ramo punkband Klamydia. The lyrics are good. It's fucking teenagers over and that's right for them! All in all, the band plays well together and the singer, Pekka, fits in this band like a cat in a microwave oven. Or actually both singers because the drummer, The Meisseli, sings a lot too. I like the guitar solos too. Short enough and enough rock. This wasn't a bad demo. Johnny is good song. I would like to hear more songs like that. So more punk ROCK and less hardcore is my advice! Like anyone really gives a shit about my advice... |
